A special Remembrance story from Jacqui and Andie following their recent break to Cornwall, that shows the healing impact of spending time in a new location.
Jacqui told us, “As a gay veteran dismissed under the years of the military ban on service, I had not engaged with any veterans charity for decades. After a period of unemployment and my wife experiencing an attempted armed robbery at her workplace, I knew we needed to get away. I stumbled on Give Us Time and applied, and we have had an amazing time at Cobble Cottage. The hosts were warm and welcoming, and invited us to the Remembrance parade in the local town, which we went to, and were given a warm welcome as a couple, by all of the other veterans too.
“After so much negativity from fellow veterans over the years I found this to be an amazingly healing experience to be part of the veteran community again. We mixed up the week with some tourist trips, local bus rides and walking.
“We will never forget this holiday and can’t thank everyone enough.”
Thank you to our wonderful donors, Cobble Cottage, for their support to Jacqui, Andie, and the wider military community.
