Miles of Support: Fundraisers Help Give Military Families a Break

Give Us Time is delighted to announce that Armed Forces runners have raised more than £5,000 for the charity so far this year.

Since January, 20 runners have completed more than 250 miles to help military families spend precious time together, participating in events across the UK including the London Marathon, the Beast of the Beacons, and the Moray Chilled 20 Mile Race.

Among them was Amanda Power, who ran her first half marathon after previously completing only a 5K. Amanda signed up to run for Give Us Time on 2 March, but sadly, just days later, her mum passed away while Amanda was with her. Despite this difficult time, she continued training while balancing life as a serving parent to two children, staying focused on her goal.

Reflecting on race day, Amanda said: “Running the race, I felt like she was watching over me, and training after she died probably helped keep me strong.”

Alex Youngs, Operations Director, congratulated the runners on their efforts, adding: “Our Armed Forces personnel and their families lead incredibly busy lives, so for these runners to dedicate their own time to supporting Give Us Time is truly remarkable.

“It is particularly rewarding to see support coming from people who have previously benefited from our work. Knowing that families we have helped want to give something back means a great deal to us and is a wonderful reflection of the lasting impact these breaks can have.

“We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has taken on a challenge, raised funds and helped us continue supporting those who serve.”

The charity is planning more runs in the autumn, with a focus on running for Remembrance.
